"For Supporters Of Abortion Access, Troubling Trends In Texas," NPR Article Features TxPEP

Mon, November 18, 2019

TxPEP research on House Bill 2 (HB 2) and abortion clinic closures is featured in this NPR article on the trend toward reduced access to abortion in Texas.

In the article, TxPEP investigator Kari White discusses the period during HB 2 when Texas had only 17 open clinics. "What we saw is that [in] West Texas and South Texas, access was incredibly limited," White says, "and women living in those parts of the state were more than 100 miles — sometimes 200 or more miles — from the nearest facility." Texas now has 22 clinics, which is less than half of the number the state had before House Bill 2 was proposed.

The article also includes quotes from women TxPEP interviewed who were seeking abortion while clinics were shutting down. The women detail the barriers they encountered.
