Arabic Flagship Program
The AFP actively recruits undergraduate students who choose Arabic as an integral skill for their future careers and who are committed to reaching superior proficiency in Arabic.
A typical AFP applicant has already completed at least one semester of Arabic study and maintains a grade point average of 3.5 or above.
Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and academic majors, but they share a commitment to the study of Arabic and a talent for learning languages. After completing the program, our students plan to work in government, international business, academia, law, journalism, international development, and many other global professions.

- Full-time UT student in good standing
- US citizen or permanent resident

Application Instructions
A complete application to our program will include:
- A completed online application form
- A Statement of Purpose: You can upload a pdf version of your statement of purpose within the application. Your statement of purpose should be no more than 500 words and is an opportunity to explain your immediate academic objectives, your long-term professional goals and how Arabic fits into both of these. Please include how future academic and career plans make you capable of reaching Superior proficiency in Arabic.
- Letter of Recommendation: On the application, you will need to list a reference that is familiar with your aptitude for learning languages (Arabic, if applicable) or who can describe your aptitude for learning new concepts and your motivation for succeeding in a challenging academic program. We will provide a link that you will send to them to complete.
- Transcript from current institution: You will upload this transcript on the online application and it must be uploaded as a pdf*
- High school transcript(s) for freshmen applicants only*
*Copies of transcripts will suffice for this application. Current UT students may submit an academic summary from the Office of Registrar in lieu of an official UT transcript. If you have not completed a full semester at UT, please submit a transcript for your most recently completed semester (high school, other university, etc.)
