Academic advising addresses a variety of student concerns such as degree requirements, departmental and Graduate Studies policies, course selection, problems with a class or professor, referral to other UT services, and life and career goals.

Faculty Mentors

All graduate students work with a faculty mentor. The main responsibility of a mentor is to provide the student with personal guidance in academic matters, which often involves recommending elective courses before registration, thesis or report topic development, and acquainting the student with relevant issues in the academic or professional field. Mentors are not responsible for answering questions regarding general rules and requirements of the program; such questions should be directed to the Graduate Adviser or Graduate Coordinator.
