Camp Facilities

The R. E. W. Adams Research Facility consists of several buildings:

• A large dorm building and lab
• A kitchen and dining hall
• Several roofed tent areas
• Showers (water is not heated)
• Latrines

Lodging will be assigned upon arrival. Generally, you may expect to share a dorm room (4 bunks) with up to three others, or a tent with one other person. Mattresses or foam sleeping pads will be provided. Laundry service is provided once per week. A large diesel generator provides us with part-time electricity. We do not yet have 24-hour electricity. Potable water is available in camp 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Our water comes from a deep well and is pumped through a filtering system.

Food & Drink

Local cooks are hired to prepare Belizean-style food for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Please inquire about special dietary needs, as some are difficult to accommodate, except for lacto-ovo vegetarians.

Breakfast items may consist of beans, eggs, oatmeal, boiled plantains, cheese, buns, tortillas, fruit (e.g. watermelon or bananas), coffee, and tea.

Lunch items may consist of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, canned tuna, canned meat (Vienna sausages), breakfast leftovers, fruit, tortillas, and buns.

Dinner items may consist of beans, rice, vegetables, and chicken or beef, and fruit.

Soft drinks are available for purchase. Filtered water is available 24 hours/day, free of charge. Kool-Aid or something similar is also available free of charge at meal times.
