Latino Studies at UT

Latino Studies at The University of Texas at Austin consists of three interconnected units that provide cutting edge research, rigorous teaching, and public programming on the Mexican American and Latina/o communities of the Americas. The Center for Mexican American Studies, the Latino Research Initiative, and the Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies, work independently and collectively to advance the academic, intellectual, and social agendas of the UT campus and broader community.

We are grateful to those who have worked diligently to bring us to where we are, and in an era constituted by uncertainty, we commit ourselves to continuing the transformative work that is at the core of our mission. Together, we stand proudly in solidarity with latinx, black, indigenous, muslim, brown, undocumented, incarcerated, poor, disabled, trans, and queer peoples — and those at the many intersections. We take inspiration from the powerful legacies of resistance to white supremacy, settler colonialism, and gender violence that inform our daily work as scholars, teachers, and administrators. We remain committed to supporting students and the entire MALS, CMAS, and LRI communities in the ongoing struggle to realize a fiercely just and affirmative future.
