Summer Scholarships

This summer, we will be offering several Certificate Completion scholarships in the amount of $4000 to students who will have completed their four Area requirements toward the Certificate in Core Texts and Ideas by the beginning of Summer 2024. To review what those requirements are, please consult our certificate plan. We will offer scholarships of $1000-2000, depending on available funding, to students who have not completed those requirements. All of these scholarships will cover only a part of the total cost of summer study, so we encourage you to seek additional funding elsewhere.

Students who enroll in any great books based summer study abroad program are eligible for our scholarship, and some courses will also count for CTI credit. The following programs may be of particular interest:

The Rome Institute of Liberal Arts has enjoyed a long-standing affiliation with the University of Texas, and Dr. Dempsey has taught there several times (though he will not be teaching there next summer). The program gives students the opportunity to spend their summers in Rome, studying great texts in small seminar settings, for UT credit. Both courses, Beauty and the Sacred and Empire and the Soul, will count as CTI electives. For more information about the courses, program dates, requirements, costs, and upcoming information sessions, please visit http://rilarts.org/.

The Oxford Summer Program, sponsored by the Department of English, is also eligible for funding, and the Shakespeare course counts as a CTI elective.

The Jefferson Center scholarship may also be used for the summer study programs in Pamplona, Rome, and Athens offered through the Association for Core Texts and Courses, though students will have to consult with Texas Global to see whether they can earn UT credit for completing the program. The Jefferson Center cannot promise either UT or CTI credit in advance for these courses, but if you would like to share a syllabus with us we can advise you on whether, if requested by Texas Global, we will recommend CTI credit for a particular course.
