What is EPMP?
In short, EPMP matches first year economics majors with upperclassmen who have demonstrated success as economics majors. Our program is a fun way to get more connected to the UT campus, the Department of Economics, and you may even make some life-long friends!

How can I join EPMP?

If you’re interested in being a mentee or a mentor, please email ecoadvisors@austin.utexas.edu for more information. Please include your EID in all email correspondence.

What can I expect from EPMP?
You will be thoughtfully assigned a mentor or mentee to meet with on a bi-weekly basis throughout the semester to discuss a variety of topics that are relevant to first year UT students. Topics include but are not limited to:

  • What to expect as an upper division economics major
  • Study skills
  • Time management skills
  • Student organizations
  • Campus and community events
  • Career planning
  • Goal setting

Throughout the semester we have several group activities including socials, career workshops, and volunteer service activities. At this time, EPMP has gone virtual and is holding all meetings through Zoom.

The Economics Peer Mentor Program is an official 360 Connection.

What are Mentee Requirements?
Mentees are incoming freshman and first year transfer students who could use an upperclassman's experience and guidance for a variety of reasons from improving academic skills to getting connected to campus resources to just making more friends within the major. The program requires a one-semester commitment.

To inquire about becoming a mentee, please email ecoadvisors@austin.utexas.edu for more information. Please include your EID in all email correspondence.

EPMP does not provide tutoring services but peer mentors can connect you with tutoring services available within our department and across campus.

What are Mentor Requirements?
Mentors are upperclassmen who have demonstrated success as economics majors. Mentors are required to have 1) a 2.75 overall UT or economics GPA, 2) ECO 329 completed with a C or higher, and 3) at least 24 hours completed in residence.
