Economics Alumni Mentor Program
The Economics Alumni Mentor Program (EAMP) is currently being restructured. We will update this page with new program details soon.
If you have questions about EAMP in the meantime, please contact ecoadvisors@austin.utexas.edu.
EAMP pairs undergraduate economics majors with successful professionals as mentors, to guide students on a path to success in their fields of interest.
Goals of the Program:
- Provide first-hand, behind the scenes knowledge about industries and professions of interest
- Discuss lessons in life-skills
- Perspective on career choices, transitions, and different professions
- Increased networking capability (and teaching how-to successfully network)
- Help with professional development (resume and cover letter reviews, interview advice)
- Potential Internship opportunities
How it works:
- Student will fill out the survey application that asks about background and areas of interest.
- If accepted to the program, the student will be matched with an EAC or associated alumni member with experience and expertise in at least one of the student’s areas of interest (if possible).
- The mentorship duration is for one year, with the possibility of extension if both parties agree, up to the student’s graduation.
- Mentor and mentee will arrange a schedule of contact, which may be in-person or virtual meetings.
- Mentees will also be eligible for special events and opportunities arranged by the EAC and the Economics Department.
Eligibility:
- Must be a declared Economics major with at least one year of college remaining
For any questions, please ecoadvisors@austin.utexas.edu.
Participant feedback:
"I personally had an amazing experience with my mentor, we talked on the phone once a month and I would update her on my life and career choices. My mentor connected me with numerous professionals to get different points of views in the fields that I wanted to work in, and gave me great support when I was choosing between two internship options, along with advice on how to succeed in my current internship." - 2019-2020 Mentee
Background:
The Economics Alumni Mentor Program (EAMP) is an initiative of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC), an alumni and faculty leadership group whose aim is to enhance the student experience and strengthen alumni participation with the Economics Department.
