Honors

The English Honors Program (EHP) is excellent preparation for the future, whether your post-baccalaureate plans include graduate school, law school, business, nonprofit, or creative work. Once accepted into the EHP, students are able to enroll in honors seminars. These exclusive courses offer intensive mentoring from some of the department’s most distinguished faculty as well as an intimate community of students with shared interests and goals. Through these courses and community, EHP students develop advanced proficiency in research, writing, and analysis. Finally, the capstone experience of writing an original, independent honors thesis provides portable skills for whatever professional paths you take.

To graduate with English Honors, students must:

  • Complete 60 hours in residence at UT-Austin
  • Fulfill bachelor’s degree requirements with minimum GPAs of 3.5 (UT-Austin) and 3.75 (English)
  • Write and defend an honors thesis

Additionally, students must earn a grade of B+ or higher in the following:

  • Three upper-division English honors seminars
  • English 368H: Honors Tutorial Course I
  • English 369H: Honors Tutorial Course II

Here is additional information about EHP.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority deadlines of 15 October and 15 March. Apply here.
