The purpose of the paper was to holistically look at recycling debris from natural disasters. The scope of her research included exploring programs in place; the environmental and financial impact of the programs; and policies and regulations. Her research explored present practices in the area of disaster debris management (especially in southeast and southwest regions), the environmental impact, cost of the programs, and the underlying policies driving the programs. Additionally, she has written papers on topics such as "EPA’s Assessment and Control of Toxic Chemicals After Katrina and the Laws and Policies that Followed" and a paper centered on a study that assessed various programs implemented by Galveston Bay in preserving and restoring the wetlands. The purpose of the study was to evaluate whether the existing projects implemented by Galveston Bay were effectively mitigating habitat degradation and explore other possible solutions in restoring the wetlands.
