Education Abroad
There are numerous opportunities to study abroad during your time at UT-Austin. We strongly suggest you attend an Education Abroad information session and setup an appointment with a Study Abroad advisor to discuss your interests in terms of semester, location, program type, etc...
If you are interested in taking Geography coursework while abroad, the following can give you some insight into programs that offer credit for Geography courses that have already been approved and are in the My Credit Abroad database. Since programs may come and go, and there may be other course offerings at some institutions, any student studying abroad should meet with a study abroad advisor and the Geography advisor for a more complete list of options and to determine how the credit will count towards your degree. This page is simply meant as a starting point for those conversations.
Geography Faculty-led Maymester and Summer Programs:
GRG 323K: Nature, Society and Sustainability - Ecuador
Dr. Gregory Knapp leads students on a Maymester program that explores the environment, social change and sustainability using Ecuador as a classroom. Students receive three credit hours.
GRG 367D and GRG 368D: Climate Change, Ecosystems, and Human Dynamics
Dr. Thoralf Meyer and Dr. Kelley Crews take students to the remote Bostwana Kalahari, which provides an ideal labratory to explore climate change issues such as carbon storage, food production and the interactions between humans and the environment. Students receive six credit hours.
Semester-Long Exchange and Affiliate Programs:
The following programs have at least five Geography courses listed in the My Credit Abroad database. There are certainly other programs in which Geography credit is possible and there are some courses abroad that have not yet been evaluated by UT-Austin. It also is not required that a Geography major take specific GRG courses abroad, depending on the student's goals and degree progress. Any student going abroad should meet with the academic advisor and a study abroad advisor to discuss all possibilities, options, and what is the right path for their particular situation.
