Urban Geography
This track offers in-depth understanding of city-life and urbanization, including the historical, social, political, economic and ecological processes that shape our cities. Urban geographers care about social justice and the city, the right to the city, environmental degradation in cities, and ways to imagine and build sustainable urban futures. Students explore urban growth and decline in the global north and south, urban cultures, urban planning, political dynamics of urban communities, urban poverty, ethnic segregation, migration, transportation, housing, and the fiscal dilemmas faced by cities. This track prepares students for careers with state and metropolitan governments in public policy, city planning, regional development, and transportation planning, as well as diverse positions in the non-profit and private sectors.
