Step 3: Additional Materials Required by the Department

Prepare the remaining materials required by the Department of Germanic Studies and manage them through the Status Check website.

US Applicants

Submit the following materials online:

  • application
  • Statement of Purpose (submit with application)
  • Nonrefuldable application fee ($65)
  • One official copy of academic transcript from every senior college attended, including copies of Scheine from German universities, if applicable
  • Three letters of recommendation. Enter reference information on the application; your references will receive instructions on submitting their letters electronically.
  • A writing sample, in English or German, that represents your abilities and interests.*
  • CV/Resumé

International Applicants

Submit the following materials online:

  • application
  • Statement of Purpose (submit with application)
  • Non-refundable application fee ($90)
  • One copy of the academic transcript from every senior college attended, including copies of Scheine from German universities, if applicable
  • One official copy of TOEFL scores
  • Three letters of recommendation. Enter reference information on application; your referees will receive instructions on submitting their letters electronically.
  • One writing sample, in English or German, that represents your abilities and interests.*
  • CV/Resumé

Applicants who wish to apply for funding should indicate on the application form the type(s) of award sought.  No separate application is required.

*You will be able to upload your official transcript(s) and writing sample on MyStatus

Check your admissions status 1-2 business days after you have submitted your application.
