Declaring a Minor or Certificate in German
There are different options for minors and certificates available in Germanic Studies -- see the links to the right.
Requirements and options for minors vary widely among colleges. The Department of Germanic Studies Academic Advisor is available to discuss appropriate course choices with you, but it is best to check with the advisor in your major to clarify the exact requirements for a minor.

The Required Minor for German Majors
For students under the 2010-2012, 2012-2014, or 2014-2016 academic catalogs
The minor for German majors consists of 12 hours in one other field of study, including at least 6 hours of upper division coursework and 6 hours of in-residence coursework; OR a complete foreign language sequence NOT used for the liberal arts foreign language requirement. Must include 9 hours total, 6 hours of in-residence coursework, and 3 hours upper-division coursework.
For students starting in Fall 2016 under the 2016-2018 academic catalogs
Completion of 15-21 hours of prescribed coursework in a different field of study than the major is required. A complete list of approved minors, requirements, and instructions on how to declare can be found online. Some minors are restricted and may require an application. A transcript-recognized certificate may also satisfy this requirement.
