Lecture: "Western Hemisphere Policy from a Washington Perspective"

Tue, March 5, 2013 | SAC 1.118

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

In the wake of the November elections, President Obama has laid out a broad agenda. Where does U.S. policy toward Latin America fit? Will we anticipate changes or more of the same? What is the role of the Hispanic community, and how will domestic initiatives including immigration reform impact the region?  Eric Farnsworth will discuss these and other policy issues for Latin American from a Washington perspective.

Eric Farnsworth is a recognized expert on hemispheric affairs and U.S. foreign and trade policy. He is a frequent commentator in print, visual, and new media, and has authored or co-authored articles in American Interest, Americas Quarterly, Current History, Journal of Democracy, and Latin American Policy.  He currently serves as vice-president of the Council of the Americas, a leading voice on the hemisphere where the public and private sectors meet to discuss and promote an agenda based on democratic governance, open markets, and the rule of law.
