Bruce Buchanan
Professor Buchanan is a presidential scholar and a political analyst. He served as the director of research for the Markle Foundation studies of the 1988, 1992, and 1996 presidential elections. His books include "The Presidential Experience" (Prentice- Hall, 1978), "The Citizen's Presidency" (Congressional Quarterly, 1987), "Electing A President" (Texas, 1991), "Renewing Presidential Politics" (Rowman and Littlefield, 1996), "The State of the Presidency" (ed. LBJ School/Library 2002), "Presidential Campaign Quality" (Prentice- Hall, 2004), "The Policy Partnership" (Routledge, 2004) and "Presidential Power and Accountability" (Routledge, 2013). A chapter from that book entitled "Presidential Accountability for Wars of Choice," is available here. His article, "Citizen Oversight of Presidential Performance," based on eight years of interviews with ordinary citizens, appears in the Spring 2016 issue of the journal Presidential Studies Quarterly. A book that draws on these interviews, tentatively titled "How Americans Judge Presidents" is in progress.
