Prospective Students

Thank you for considering the PhD program in Government at The University of Texas at Austin! 

We welcome applicants from different academic backgrounds-not just in political science. We've had students who studied history, law, philosophy, other social science fields (e.g., economics, psychology, and sociology) even STEM disciplines. What matters most is a strong academic record, thoughtful recommendations, and a writing sample that shows originality and depth in research. We value intellectual engagement and seek students ready to engage in rigorous, meaningful scholarship. Admission is offered once a year for fall enrollment, and applicants should be pursuing a Ph.D.
