The Health and Relationships Project (HARP) is a multi-wave, longitudinal study that explores how married couples’ relationships and health change over time. Launched in 2014-2015, the study includes a diverse sample of same- and different-sex spouses (n = 419), who were between the ages of 35 and 65 at enrollment. Couples have been followed across three waves (2014-2015, 2021–2022, and 2024–2025), with data collected at each wave through two components: a comprehensive baseline survey and a series of daily diary surveys.

The baseline surveys capture a wide range of topics related to marital dynamics and physical, emotional, and psychological health. The daily diary surveys provide fine-grained, day-to-day insights into couples’ interactions, stressors, and health symptoms. Together, these data offer a rich resource for examining how intimate relationships influence—and are influenced by—health and aging over time.
