Faculty Learning Community
The Global Human Rights Faculty Learning Community (FLC) is a collaborative effort between Austin Community College and Hemispheres, UT’s international outreach consortium. With the ultimate goal of integrating global topics into their curriculum, the FLC provides the opportunity for ACC faculty to learn about human rights issues in various world regions and to have a collaborative space to discuss these issues and work with their colleagues to develop new curriculum or programming.
The FLC consists of an annually selected cohort of 15 ACC faculty from a diverse array of disciplines, including Business, Chemistry, English as a Second Language, GIS, Computer Science, French and Italian, History, and more. Each month, FLC faculty meet experts from The University of Texas and beyond who study human rights in various world regions and contexts, hold discussions, and learn from their colleagues. FLC member faculty serve as facilitators at FLC meetings and lead discussions on curriculum integration. This supportive environment provides FLC faculty with an opportunity to share their passion for teaching with other motivated educators. The culmination of each annual FLC involves faculty updating curriculum and developing projects to bring human rights into the classroom.
