Department of History Spring Graduation

Deadline to RSVP, get name in program, and request tickets:  April 2nd, 2018

Eligibility to participate: History majors who:
        •    graduated in December 2017, and
        •    will graduate in May or August 2018.

Student steps to participate:   
        1.    Student must apply to graduate in College (or request to “walk”) to COLA by April 2nd.
        2.    History majors must RSVP to Jason Gentry, History Advising Office, and request guest tickets. Due to the                    small venue, guest tickets are limited.
        3.    Students must purchase academic regalia at Co-op.

History Convocation Schedule

         9:15-9:30AM | Students report to Garrison Hall (GAR), room 0.102 (in regalia)

         9:30AM | HMA doors open for guests.
                          Tickets required of each guest (even children). More info below.

         9:50AM | Students and faculty will walk from Garrison to Hogg Auditorium.  

         10:00AM | Students and faculty will process down the aisle. 

         11:30AM | During ceremony, students will cross the stage and have name announced. The are not in alpha order.

         11:30AM | The ceremony will conclude after faculty and students exit.

Special Needs Guests Info: Guests in wheelchairs or with significant mobility challenges should arrive at 9:20AM so that they can be assisted to appropriate seating.

Guests Info:  Student must request tickets by April 2nd.  Tickets are free but limited.   A ticket must be presented by each person (even children).  Please arrive together, do not try to save seats.  Be seated before 10:00. Seats will be on left aisle, right aisle, back of center aisle and balcony.   There are no bad seats in this small venue.   However, some seats are roped off for students and staff who will arrive as the ceremony starts.

Photos:     The venue is fairly dark and not good for cameras/phones.  Photos will be taken of students by a professional photographer as the student crosses the stage.  Student will complete a card with their contact information so that vendor can contact them about photos.   

Signer: If you or your guests need a signer (American Sign Language), we must be officially notified no later than April 30th.

Parking: Free during Graduation (except in spots that say "no parking at all times").

Closest garages to Hogg are:
•    San Antonio Street Garage (SAG) | 2420 San Antonio Street
•    27th Street Garage (TSG) | 109 W. 27th St. (corner of 27th Street and University Avenue)
•    Speedway Garage (SWG) |  105 E. 27th Street (corner of 27th Street and Speedway)

Security: Backpacks, tote bags or any bags larger than 12 inches in any dimension will not be allowed into any of the Commencement venues. All other bags, including purses, camera cases and diaper bags will be searched by security officers before visitors are permitted to enter the South, Main, East and West Malls for the University-wide ceremony. These smaller bags are also subject to search at the college, school and departmental ceremonies. We strongly urge all attendees not to bring bags to any of the ceremonies unless they are absolutely necessary. Those visitors bringing smaller bags should expect delays in order to enter the venue and those with the prohibited larger bags will be turned away.  Please plan accordingly and do not bring any packages that cannot be opened or inspected.
