About Us
The Humanities Institute (HI) is a central hub for humanities research at The University of Texas at Austin. We develop, support, celebrate, and sustain research led by UT faculty and students alike. The HI embraces a broad understanding of the humanities, engaging with partners from around the university and in communities across Texas. We are dedicated to expanding the pathways for humanities research and careers and helping humanities researchers find the right funding and support opportunities for their projects.
The Humanities Institute (HI) advances collaborative humanities research in the following ways:
Amplifying Scholarship: The HI is dedicated to promoting innovative humanities research and scholarship across the university. This includes:
- Showcasing Research: The HI highlights and elevates the work of faculty, students, and staff through events, publications, and other platforms, bringing visibility to their research and its impact.
- Fostering Collaboration: The HI encourages collaboration by connecting researchers from different areas and promoting a vibrant intellectual community.
- Providing Resources: The HI offers various resources, such as research grants, fellowships, workshops, and tools, to support the development and execution of innovative projects.
Research Development: One of the HI’s key functions is to assist researchers in securing extramural support for their projects. This involves:
- Identifying Funding Opportunities: The HI helps researchers find grants from various sources, such as federal agencies, private foundations, and other funding bodies.
- Supporting Grant Writing: The HI offers guidance, support, and assistance with submissions, ensuring researchers can successfully submit their projects.
