Digital Humanities Research Working Groups at the Humanities Institute at UT-Austin fosters collaboration and interdisciplinary exploration. The aim is to cultivate a collaborative research environment, starting from a seminar-like setting that could catalyze the adoption of new research methodologies, foster cross-institutional collaborations, and encourage joint funding ventures.

Under the expert guidance of Dr. Tanya Clement, Digital Humanities Research Working Groups aim to create a supportive space for researchers to explore interdisciplinary topics, make decisions about research directions, and build collaborative teams.

2025 | Digital Humanities (DH) Research Working Groups

We are excited to announce the 2025 Digital Humanities (DH) Research Working Groups!

This year, we received a number of competitive responses, After the selection process, we are excited to present three (3) outstanding projects that have been chosen to lead in DH research.

Selected DH Research Project Groups:

  • DH Research Group #1 | AI Safety and Security in DH:  This project aims to bring together research interests from multiple interconnected domains: AI safety and security understood as a preservation and digital forensics problem (Archives), AI safety and Explainability as a DH research methodology problem (XAI), and AI safety and security as a cybersec and information campaigning problem (Public safety, Sociology, Government).
  • DH Research Group #2 | Experimental Ethnography, Zines and Book Arts: Focused on the integration of digital tools in literary studies, this Research Creation project explores how the digital humanities can expand to consider the intersections of theory, research, and art practice. The group aims to establish a sustained relationship between Research Creation and digital humanities.
  • DH Research Group #3 |  Critical Digital Literacy Working Group: This innovative project seeks to leverage existing landscapes of support for writing and research in the University Writing Center (located in the PCL), to move towards a more critical digital literacy, and to situate the affordances of the interdisciplinary nature of the digital humanities within existing writing research spaces to navigate contemporary critical digital literacy issues.

We invite you to learn more about these exciting projects, their team members, and the impact they will have on the field of Digital Humanities.
