Humanities Institute Future Investigators
Extramural funding is transforming what's possible in humanities research — but the path to a first grant can be unfamiliar terrain for scholars trained in traditional modes of humanities work. Humanities Institute Future Investigators (HI-FI) is designed to change that. The program pairs a series of hands-on workshops with personalized mentoring, guiding faculty step by step as they design, develop, and submit their first proposal for external funding. HI-FI welcomes scholars at any career stage — from early career faculty to senior colleagues — who are ready to bring their research to new audiences and new resources through grant-funded work.
To join the HI-FI program, complete this form. Deadline: September 20, 2026.
- Program requirements: Participants attend a series of workshops covering the fundamentals of extramural funding, from identifying the right funding opportunities to building a competitive proposal. Following the workshop series, each participant will receive one-on-one guidance as they prepare their first submission.
- Award: Faculty who complete the program and submit a grant proposal receive $2,000 in immediate start-up funding to launch their project while their application is under review.
For more information come to the Research Synergies Workshop & Informational Session. Questions about the HI-FI program can be directed to Scott Graham.
