Language in the Making: Bilingual Childhoods Across Mind, Society, and Meaning
Dr. Pablo E. Requena, Dr. Maria M. Arredondo, and Dr. Catharine H. Echols (pictured below) were awarded a Research Working Group (RWG) to help research billingual childhoods. This cross-disciplinary RWG is based in the Departments of Spanish & Portuguese, Human Development & Family Sciences, and Psychology.
"Language in the Making" explores how bilingual children learn, think, interact, and form identities across multilingual environments. Bringing together faculty in linguistics, developmental psychology, and cognitive neuroscience, the project focuses on how children in Texas navigate language variation, social meaning, attention, and learning through caregivers, peers, and communities.
