The Texas Humanities Collaboratory for Collections and Data

Dr. Samuel Baker, Dr. Pramit Chaudhuri, Dr. Courtney Handman, Dr. Justin Hart, Dr. Rebecca Falkoff, Dr. Tracie Matysik, Dr. Erica Nunn-Kinias, Dr. Katie Pierce Meyer, Dr. Adam Rabinowitz, Dr. Alexander Sherman, and Dr. Jessica Sherrill (pictured below) were awarded a Research Working Group (RWG) to advance research data collection in the Humanities. This cross-disciplinary RWG is based in the Departments of English, Classics, Anthropology, Computer Science, French and Italian, and History, as well as the Chase Architecture & Planning Library and the Harry Ransom Center.

The researchers in this RWG have conceived an innovative institutional vehicle for achieving AI readiness around the humanities data lifecycle. They call this vehicle the "Texas Humanities Collaboratory for Collections and Data (THC-CD)." Their collaboratory has three primary goals: 1) to assess the harms and benefits using AI may bring for processing the data intrinsic to humanistic research, 2) to discover what emerging best practices for humanities data can teach us about using AI for humanistic purposes, and 3) to advance AI science as they do so.
