UT Austin | Team CETRI Research Team Members
As members of the UT Austin Community-Engaged, Trauma-Informed (CETRI) Research Team, we aim to create a collaborative, inclusive, and empathetic research environment. We engage with communities to co-create knowledge that addresses trauma and promotes healing, social well-being, mental health, and resilience,. Our research is respectful, ethical, and responsive to the needs of those affected by trauma and violence, ensuring their voices are central to our work.

Dr. Monica Muñoz Martinez, Principal Investigator (PI)
Associate Professor of History

Dr. Monica Muñoz Martinez is Associate Professor of History at The University of Texas at Austin. Her first book The Injustice Never Leaves You: Anti-Mexican Violence in Texas received six book awards. She co-founded the award-winning project Refusing to Forget and has collaborated with the Bullock Texas State History Museum, the Texas Historical Commission, and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History to develop public history projects in Texas. Martinez is a 2021 MacArthur Foundation Fellow and a Distinguished Lecturer for the Organization of American Historians. She was born and raised in Uvalde, Texas.

Dr. Gloria González-López, Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI)

Professor of Sociology | College of Liberal Arts | University of Texas at Austin
Gloria González-López holds the C.B. Smith Sr. Centennial Chair # 1 in US-Mexico Relations, and is Professor of Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin, where she has worked since 2002. She received a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Southern California (2000) and was a University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at U.C. Berkeley, affiliated with the Department of Sociology (2000-2002).

Dr. Noël Busch-Armendariz, Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI)

Director, Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (IDVSA)
Steve Hicks School of Social Work | University of Texas at Austin
Noël teaches graduate courses in human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and restorative practices. Noël is the founding and current director of the UT Austin Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (IDVSA), a collaboration of the Schools of Social Work, Nursing, Law, and the Bureau for Business. The National Science Foundation (NFS), the National Institute of Justice, the Office for Victims of Crime, the Office on Violence Against Women, and many other foundations and entities have funded her research. To inform the criminal legal system of the complexities of the dynamics of interpersonal violence, Noёl has provided expert testimony in over 100 criminal, civil, and immigration cases. Since 2022, she has been a co-lead on a team responding to and documenting the urgent needs in Uvalde, Texas, in the aftermath of the mass violence following the school shooting in May 2022.

Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault
Steve Hicks School of Social Work | University of Texas at Austin
Caitlin Sulley, LMSW, is the Director of Research & Operations at UT Austin’s Steve Hicks School of Social Work’s Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and a Field Instructor for Social Work students in the Administrative and Policy Practice track. Caitlin directs research and training initiatives focused on multidisciplinary violence response and prevention for community and college populations and trauma-informed practices for survivor engagement.

Senior Research Scientist | IC2 Institute | University of Texas at Austin
Gregory Pogue is a management lecturer in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin and the deputy executive director and senior research scientist at UT’s IC2 Institute. At the IC2 Institute, Pogue leads research, education, and implementation programs around technology commercialization, early venture creation, business and venture deal development, and entrepreneurship in more than 12 countries.

Matt Kammer-Kerwick, PhD, is an NSF-funded Senior Research Scientist at the Bureau of Business Research at the IC2 Institute, a Research Affiliate of the Population Research Center, and a Lecturer in the Human Dimensions of Organizations program, all at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also a co-principal investigator on projects with the Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (IDVSA) in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work.

Bruce Kellison, PhD, is Director of the Bureau of Business Research at the IC2 Institute, and co-director of the Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, at The University of Texas at Austin. He is responsible for strategic planning and research for the Bureau, an applied economic research center and a member of the Texas State Data Center network.

Lani Both is a graduate of the Department of Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies at UT Austin. She serves as a Research Fellow for the work with the Uvalde Community. Her most recent writing is published in the book, “Feminist Mosaic."
