IRG to Career

Students that major in International Relations and Global Studies are required to take a diverse body of coursework and as a result graduate from the university with a broad range of highly marketable skills that are excellent preparation for virtually any profession.   Some of the more common career paths for IRG majors are:

• Government Service - Department of State (including the Foreign Service), defense, Health & Human Services, Homeland Security, the Armed Services, intelligence agencies, branches of the government with international divisions (commerce, energy, agriculture).
• International Organizations - United Nations, World Bank, international financial institutions.
• Non-governmental Organizations (NGO's) - human rights and environmental groups, international and public policy research groups, development and aid organizations.
• International Business and Finance - banks, multinational corporations, accounting firms.
• Law - legal careers focusing on immigration, human rights, the environment, trade and finance.
• Education/Academia - primary/secondary education in the U.S. and abroad, English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor, college or university faculty.

Outside of the fields listed above, IRG majors also pursue careers in health care, journalism, consulting, media and public health.  The list is endless!
