Institute of Urban Policy

IUPRA's podcast, Black Lives Texas, is hosted by Assistant Director of Assessment Tracie Lowe, PhD, and Research Associate Ricardo Lowe, MS (learn more about our staff here). In this podcast, we examine how a variety of social issues and policies affect Black Texans.

In our first season, we’re discussing the impact of COVID-19 on Black people in Austin, specifically in education. The pandemic has exposed and exacerbated pre-existing inequities, such as access to food and technology. In each episode, we’re talking to the communities that are being directly impacted as well as the experts who are working for change.
