Academic Enrichment
We know it takes more than academics to make the most of students’ time at the university and to excel after leaving the Forty Acres. Employers and postgraduate programs look for well-rounded students who are leaders outside the classroom. For that reason, LAH Scholars who wish to graduate with either the Scholars or Distinguished Scholars designations are asked to complete a minimum of two academic enrichment experiences from the following categories: community service, internships, leadership, research, and study abroad. The hours required for each category, as well as some resources to get you started, are listed below.
Please note: If you have used an internship or study abroad course for your experiential learning requirement, you cannot count those internship hours or study abroad experience towards your academic enrichment hours. You would need to replace it with another experiential learning course to count the hours here.
- Community service: 150 hours total
- Internship: 150 hours total
- Liberal Arts Career Services Student Resources
- Texas Politics Project Internships
- Harry Ransom Center Internships – LAH sponsors three HRC internships per academic year
- UT Law Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice Internships
- Leadership: 200 hours
- LAH 102H or 103H Writing fellows
- LAH Ambassador
- LAH Student Organizations
- Hornslink
- Texas Leadership Education and Development
- Research: 100 hours
- Study Abroad: 4 weeks minimum, unless UT Faculty-led Mayterm
Be sure to track your progress towards hours in the My Credentials portion of the LAH Scholars Portal.
