LAH Creative Writing Awards

The annual LAH Creative Writing Awards recognize excellence in creative writing and support the accomplishments of our LAH students.

Eligibility: Current Liberal Arts Honors students

Specifications: Submit a portfolio of writing in one or more of the following categories.

Poetry: All kinds of verse, including experimental and traditional forms. Submit a portfolio of 6- 8 poems (in 12pt Times New Roman font) that does not exceed 12 pages.

Fiction: Well-crafted stories that feature diverse and powerful voices. Submit a portfolio of fiction writing (in 12 pt Times New Roman font) that does not exceed 5,000 words.

Literary Non-Fiction: As stories based on personal or real-life experiences, works of literary non-fiction are reflective pieces that engage with lived experience in transformative ways. Submit a portfolio of non-fiction writing (in 12 pt Times New Roman font) that does not exceed 5,000 words.

Awards in each category:

1st Prize (one award in each category): $1000

2nd Prize (one award in each category): $500

Submissions: Your contest submissions are due by 12pm CST on February 16, 2026. Submit your entries via the UT Box links below. Please be sure to include your name and EID in the title of file and at the top of your work.

Winners will be announced on April 1, 2026. All winners will participate in a reading held in the Texas Union Eastwoods Room on April 16, 2026.
