Internships
Internships at UT
Each semester, public law and democracy faculty oversee students working on a range of research projects related to law and democracy. Interning with Law and Democracy faculty, students have worked on research projects on constitution drafting, legal and constitutional reform, courts in divided societies, election-related violence, and martial law, to name a few projects.
Students earn three hours of course credit by conducting this research as part of the Government Research Internship or Undergraduate Studies Internship. Interested students should contact the faculty member(s) with whom they are interested to work to discuss the specific research opportunities available each semester.
Internships Abroad
The Embedded Scholars program is an innovative research fellowship focused on democracy assistance and research, aiming to launch students’ work in the field while advancing democratic development. The program is based in the University of Texas at Austin’s Government Department and implemented in partnership with CID Gallup, the Comparative Constitutions Project, the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the National Democratic Institute, Transparency International, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Funded by Texas Global and the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, the program provides unparalleled opportunities for students to work with CID Gallup and International IDEA in Latin America, with International IDEA in Europe, and with the National Democratic Institute, Transparency International, and UNDP in the Balkans and Eurasia. Students support a range of ongoing democracy assistance programs and engage in original research.
The Embedded Scholars internship is open to all undergraduate and graduate students of any major at UT. For more information, visit the Embedded Scholars program.
