Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships Application Now Online

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship is a highly competitive US Department of Education grant that provides graduate and undergraduate fellowships for students to pursue intensive training in modern languages and related area or international studies. These fellowships provide tuition and a substantial stipend for living expenses.

LLILAS Benson will accept applications for both graduate and undergraduate fellowships for spring 2019, summer 2019, and academic year 2019–2020. Students may apply for multiple grants. A separate application must be completed for each. The deadline for spring 2019 is December 1, 2018.

Requests will be considered for the study of Portuguese, K'iche', Nahuatl, Kaqchikel, Quechua, Haitian Creole, Chatino, and other Latin American modern languages as approved by the Department of Education. A limited number of awards may be provided to graduate students for the advanced study of Spanish. The application is now open at this FLAS application link. At this link, students will be asked to complete a one-time profile to access the College of Liberal Arts portal and FLAS application.The first round of applications (for summer only) will be due December 1.

University of Texas at Austin students who are interested in applying for a FLAS fellowship through Latin American Studies (LLILAS) are invited to attend a Latin America–specific info session on Monday, November 5 (see FLAS Funding Session Latin America Edition).
