Through our collaboration with Hemispheres, and on our own, LLILAS Benson is building new partnerships with community colleges and minority-serving institutions to help them meet new demands for internationalized curriculum in our ever more globalized world.

International Studies Program at Huston-Tillotson University
Since 2014, Hemispheres has collaborated with Huston-Tillotson University (HT), a historically Black college in Austin, on its development of an international studies program by sponsoring the teaching of courses and faculty development. HT plans to launch its international studies student program by 2018. LLILAS Benson has also been working with HT to build its library resources related to Latin America.
Globalizing Curriculum Professional Development Program with Austin Community College
In the 2016–17 academic year, Hemispheres launched a new professional development program in partnership with Austin Community College (ACC), the Global Human Rights Faculty Learning Community (FLC). The FLC provides the opportunity for ACC faculty to learn about human rights issues in various world regions, as well as a collaborative space to discuss these issues and to work toward developing new curriculum and programming for ACC students.
Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) and Community College Research Travel Fellowships
LLILAS Benson offers travel fellowships for faculty from community colleges and qualified minority-serving institutions across the U.S. to conduct research at the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, one of the premier libraries in the world focused on Latin America and Latino/a studies. Other
Faculty from community colleges and minority-serving institutions are also welcome at all of our workshops for high school teachers. Community college faculty have attended and enjoyed the Hemispheres Summer Institute.
