Cultural & Arts Events

One of the best ways to learn about Latina/o and Latin American culture is engagement through art and culture. As such, LLILAS Benson hosts cultural and arts events throughout the year in hopes of broadening the community of people with whom we explore Latino/a and Latin American culture and debate some of the most pressing issues occurring in the region.

Examples of our culture and arts events include the Foodways of Mexico speaker series, food-tasting events in which chefs and food historians discuss various components of regional Mexican cuisine to provide a broader understanding of Mexican culture and society. Each spring, the Benson Collection hosts ¡A Viva Voz!, a celebration of Latina/o arts and culture that has featured exhibitions of Latina/o art, poetry readings, musical performances, and more. LLILAS Benson has also hosted special one-time cultural events, including “Celebrating Argentina: An Evening of Tango, Literature & Food” and a performance of De Novo: Más allá de las fronteras, a play about youth immigration and detention.

In addition to these cultural and arts events, LLILAS Benson holds scholarly events throughout the year that are open to the public.
