• We recommend that applicants submit at least two weeks prior to the deadline.
Before You Begin
All applications for graduate admission to The University of Texas at Austin are processed by the Graduate School:
- Review the Graduate School’s minimum eligibility requirements for admission.
- U.S. citizens and permanent residents should review the Graduate School’s information page for U.S. applicants.
- International applicants should review the Graduate School’s information page for International applicants.
In addition to UT’s minimum requirements for graduate study, LLILAS requires:
- A minimum of 18 hours Latin American content coursework (or relevant experience living and/or working in Latin America)
- Reading and speaking knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese
- PhD applicants must have completed a master's degree before admission to the PhD program, but may submit an application before the master's degree is formally granted if the degree will be awarded before entering the PhD program.
Application Steps
- 1. Complete the UT Application and Pay the Fee
We recommend you complete the application at least two weeks before the December 1 deadline in order to give your references time to submit their Letters of Recommendation.
Begin the application process by completing an application for graduate admission at GoApplyTexas.org and paying the application fee ($65 for U.S. and Permanent Resident applicants; $90 for International applicants).
UT EID
Within 48 hours of submitting your paid application, you will receive an email containing your UT EID (university electronic identification), which you will use throughout your association with the university. Once you’ve received your UT EID, you may access the university’s MyStatus website and upload all supporting materials (see instructions below). - 1a. Dual Degree Applicant Instructions
In addition to all of the above, contact the partner program for their application instructions and deadlines. Application deadlines vary; however, December 1 is the application deadline for all LLILAS dual degree programs.
