Learn More
The Latino Research Institute at The University of Texas at Austin provides fellowships in support of its mission to build a community of engaged scholars who produce interdisciplinary research that informs policy and actions to improve the well-being of Mexican Americans and Latina/o communities.
Eligibility
We welcome applications from faculty, scholars, public intellectuals, and professional researchers in all disciplines at more advanced stages of their careers with projects that align with the intellectual orientation of the Latino Research Institute.
We encourage applicants to include intersectionality, integrate diverse disciplines, and ask how their research will advance knowledge that sustains healthy and productive environments and promotes social justice for Mexican American and Latina/o communities.
The Institute intends to support up to three Research Fellows each year, including one Distinguished Research Fellow.
Expectations
- Reside in Austin area during academic year of appointment.
- Deliver a public lecture on campus and actively participate in the intellectual life of Latino Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
- Acknowledge the support of the Latino Research Institute and other University resources in any projects or publications that emerge from your time at the University of Texas at Austin.
Stipend and Benefits
Tenured Faculty: Fellowships for tenured faculty will provide stipends equal to half salary (up to $50,000 per year for Research Fellows; up to $75,000 per year for Distinguished Research Fellow). Applicants may combine fellowship funds with sabbatical funds, other support from their home institutions, or external grants. (Total funds may not exceed annual salary for the year of the fellowship.) Please note that the Institute will not provide health insurance for tenured faculty, who are instead required to make individual arrangements with their home institutions.
Independent Scholars: Fellowships for independent scholars will provide salaries of $50,000 per year and health insurance.
All fellowships also include shared office space, a moving allowance, and logistical office support. The University of Texas at Austin is unable to pay Fellows' salaries through their home institutions. We are required by university policy to pay Fellows directly.
