  • Bed is twin-size

  • Each room has a private bathroom

  • Rooms provide linens (fitted sheet, top sheet, light blanket, pillow, pillowcase, one towel)

  • Guests should bring their preferred blanket/pillow/additional towel

We will provide more details and exact locations once participants are registered.

If I'm a UT student, may I stay in the participant accommodations?

Yes, if a room is available after accommodating out-of-town guests, UT students may stay in the accommodations.

Can I choose to not stay in on-campus housing during IQRMI-ADS?

We strongly recommend IQRMI-ADS participants to stay in on-campus housing to foster community building and networking with other participants in your cohort. Co-located housing during the week of the Institute is an important part of being part of that community. We DO NOT offer a registration discount for participants who choose not to stay in on-campus housing. As indicated in the IQRMI-ADS FAQ page, a limited amount of financial assistance is available. If you require assistance, write to LRI@austin.utexas.edu to explain your request.

Are meals provided?

We will provide continental breakfast at the program site or you may get breakfast on your own. We will provide lunch Monday–Friday. Dinner is on your own except the Welcome Dinner on Sunday and a group dinner on Wednesday. We will provide a beverage station (water, coffee, tea) all day Monday–Friday. We will provide healthy snacks in the afternoon.

Is childcare provided?

Unfortunately, at this time we do not offer childcare.

Is campus parking available?

Yes, campus parking is available. We will provide more details once participants are registered.

Is this a writing retreat?

No, this is not a writing retreat. However, you will have opportunities to write every day. Participants will meet in small working groups daily to share and receive feedback on their research, establish a daily writing routine, and synthesize the content of daily sessions.

Are there any study spaces available near/on campus I can work at while I am at the Institute?

There are plenty of coffee shops on or near campus that can serve as study spaces. On campus, libraries are open to everyone to use with some restrictions- please see https://www.lib.utexas.edu/about/locations for more information.

Will I have access to Wi-Fi?

Yes. We will provide more details once participants are on-campus.

What does it cost?

The cost of participating in IQRMI-ADS is $600, which includes tuition, lodging, and meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks — not dinner). Please note: transportation costs, including a UT parking permit, are not included.

Is financial assistance available?

IQRMI's registration fee was lowered from $900 to $600 dollars this year for all participants! However, we understand that participants may still need some assistance and we will continue to grant limited financial aid when possible. We strongly encourage applicants check with their academic departments for travel and other graduate student funding support early in the application process.

What is your refund/cancellation policy?

Due to the careful planning and coordination of IQRMI-ADS speakers and activities, we cannot refund registration fees in the event a participant cancels. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

How does payment work?

Selected applicants will receive a link to an online payment system where they can submit registration payments. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • Doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy within the last three years.

  • Applicants must have collected data on an intersectional qualitative research project.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an academic program at a U.S. accredited institution.

What do I need before starting the application?

Be prepared to upload the following documents in PDF format. Each file name should start with your last name.

  • Curriculum Vitae

  • Letter of support on official letterhead from your dissertation chair. This letter should confirm that your data will be ready for analysis and interpretation prior to your arrival at IQRMI-ADS

  • Brief biographical statement (150 words or less)

  • Description of your dissertation research project (500 words or less) that addresses the following:

  1. The data available to complete analysis and write-up results at IQRMI-ADS. Include a description of the sample and the type of qualitative or mixed methods data, including interviews, focus groups, or observation data collected.

  2. The additional skills you seek at IQRMI-ADS that can help you to complete your dissertation.

If my dissertation chair prefers to send the letter of support via email instead of via the online application, is this possible?

Although we prefer to have all application materials uploaded through the online application, we understand some dissertation chairs prefer to send their letter confidentially via email. If this is your chair’s preference, ask her/him to email your letter of support to LRI@austin.utexas.edu and include “IQRMI-ADS” and your name in the subject line.

Why isn't the application form working?

If you are receiving an error when applying or the application form is not working, email LRI@austin.utexas.edu. Provide as much detail as possible to describe the issue you are experiencing, including error messages, and we will work with you to resolve the issue.

Do I have to complete the online application in one sitting?

No, but you must click the “Save & Return Later” button every time you leave the application to save your progress. After pressing the button, a new window will pop-up providing you with a return code that is required in order to pick up where you left off. You can also send yourself a survey link to return, but it will not include your return code. Please take note of your return code.
