Implementation Science Training
The Latino Research Institute’s action-based approach is informed by the lessons of implementation science, defined as “the scientific study of methods to promote the systematic uptake of research findings and other evidence-based practices into routine practice, and, hence, to improve the quality and effectiveness of health services.”
By engaging with implementation science on the front end of a project, our researchers are more likely to arrive at actionable outcomes and provide increased returns to the community members whose time and effort have heavily informed the research. In other words, we want our work to engage in research that is meaningful to Latino communities and leads to permanent change. Implementation science helps us achieve that.
Opportunities for rigorous Implementation Science training are scarce. That’s why the Latino Research Institute has partnered with The Center for Implementation to provide an opportunity for faculty researchers to explore Implementation Science and learn how to apply it to equity-focused programs of research.
Implementation Science training prepares researchers to apply theories, models, and frameworks designed to reduce the time between knowledge gained in academia and how that knowledge is used to address inequities in health.
The Center for Implementation has extensive international experience in the delivery of tailored and comprehensive training programs in the D&I field. The LRI-sponsored “Bridging the Gap Implementation Science 2021-2022” training program consists of expert lectures and small working groups, aimed at introducing participants to basic Implementation Science theories and frameworks. Additional content is provided through modules aimed at providing research tools to participants to implement comprehensive Implementation Science-focused programs of research, specifically focused on addressing equity issues and health disparities.
The LRI-sponsored “Bridging the Gap Implementation Science 2021-2022” training program aims to train researchers on how to utilize Implementation Science theories, models and frameworks in order to reduce the lag time between knowledge gained in academia and how that knowledge is used to address inequitiesin health.
