Bilingual type 2 diabetes self-management program for the whole family.

Project Summary: 

The University of Texas at Austin and the YMCA of Austin partnered to develop and test a 12-week bilingual (English and Spanish) type 2 diabetes self-management program that includes the whole family. This research study will testwhether participation in the program can improve blood sugar levels and health-related quality of life for individuals with type 2 diabetes.

During the study, trained staff will help participantslearn to manage their Type 2 diabetes by:

•Monitoring blood sugar
•Making healthy food choices
•Being active as a family
•Reducing stress
