Courtesy Appointments

The Mexican American and Latina/o Studies Department welcomes UT Austin faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and lecturers) requests for Courtesy Appointments. The MALS Department recognizes the fundamental necessity and value of contributions from faculty across the university as it works to fulfill its mission of excellence. With that in mind, we have developed a system for Courtesy Appointments with faculty who wish to contribute through service and increase the overall quality of our academic programs. Courtesy Appointments are done at the discretion of the MALS EBC and Department Chair.

Role of MALS Courtesy Appointments

The goal of having Courtesy Appointments is to encourage and support the participation of our colleagues in the department; broaden departmental course offerings in the field of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies; increase the number of faculty who work with students in the MALS Ph.D., M.A., and undergraduate degree programs; contribute concrete service to the unit through teaching and governance; and raise the national profile of the department.
