Campus Resources

Below is a list of campus resources that may be useful to graduate students at UT Austin.

 

Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC)

CMHC provides individual and group therapy sessions, as well as weekly group discussions centered around particular identities and experiences like a Black Voices group, a Latinx Voices group, family dynamics group, etc. CMHC has many additional resources, such as a Mindful Eating program, and a Mind-Body lab. Their groups and classes are all free. 

Disability and Access

Students with a disability (permanent or temporary; physical, cognitive, or psychological) should register with Disability and Access, and find out what accommodations they may be entitled to. The most common form of accommodations UT provides to eligible students is extra time on exams and major assignments.

Gender Inclusive Restrooms

This list offers approximate locations on campus with building name, code, room number, type of bathroom, and address.

Graduate Student Parents

The University of Texas at Austin Graduate School recognizes that life events such as becoming a parent can interrupt a student's academic career. The Graduate School is committed to supporting our students. It is our commitment to work with sensitivity and imagination to ensure that all available arrangements are explored by advisers, academic staff, and departmental leaders.

Imagine PhD

This is a free online career exploration and planning tool for Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scholars in the humanities and social sciences.

Liberal Arts Career Services

Liberal Arts Career Services provides career-related support for graduate students considering or pursuing employment opportunities outside of academia.

Library Space for Graduate Students

Located at the far end of the Scholars Commons and accessible by UT ID cards, the Graduate Landing Spot offers a kitchenette, lounge areas and media-equipped, reservable meeting rooms for UT graduate students. These rooms may be used for group study and meetings with other graduate students, and consultations with UT Libraries staff. The room is PCL 2.430.

PhD students who are in the candidacy phase also have access to private study rooms. You can find more information about how to reserve a private room here

Library Workshops

Workshops at the University of Texas Libraries are free, drop-in workshops on topics related to research, digital tools and more. All workshops are free, open to everyone and located across Libraries locations. Workshops with invited speakers or co-organized with outside institutions may be subject to registration fees.

Longhorn TIES

Launched in 2019, the Longhorn TIES (Transition, Inclusion, Empower, Success) program within New Student Services coordinates and facilitates neurodiversity initiatives at The University of Texas at Austin. Longhorn TIES seeks to enhance the student experience for students who identify as neurodivergent through advocacy, connections and training, starting with the New Student Orientation process and continuing throughout the student’s tenure at the university. Longhorn TIES encompasses: TIESplus and drop-in student support services, faculty and staff support, the Neurodiversity Leadership Council, presentations and training, and more. 

Office of the Student Ombuds

They can help with conflicts and other problems students aren’t sure how to solve. Students can confidentially discuss interpersonal difficulties, university policies, university bureaucracy, and conflict resolution techniques. 

The Office of Career & Life Design

The Office of Career and Life Design (OCLD) aims to empower all graduate students and postdocs to design their own paths. They are a central hub for resources, services and support so that all grad students and postdocs can excel in their work, build essential skills, maintain personal well-being and prepare for their future careers. 

The OCLD provides individualized and group career advising, teach career design classes and workshops, and connect career offices and employers across disciplines to increase access to opportunities. They convene campus units to advocate for graduate level services and work closely with constituents to coordinate support.

Pivot

Locating and securing research funding is becoming increasingly competitive, as funding opportunities are limited and the number of researchers vying for those dollars continues to grow. Pivot™ answers the growing demands on research developers to quickly discover the right funding opportunities. Pivot is available to all UT faculty, staff researchers, research administrators and students.

Research Data Services

Research Data Services supports university faculty, students and staff across all disciplines in the management of research data. We work with partners across campus to connect researchers with the appropriate tools, resources, and expertise for dealing with data at every stage, from the earliest planning phase, through dissemination and archiving.

Student Emergency Services 

Student Emergency Services can help students with situations including but not limited to: missing student, family emergency, fire or natural disaster, student death (current or former), medical or mental health concern, academic difficulties due to crisis or emergency situations, interpersonal violence (stalking, harassment, physical and/or sexual assault). They also have a Student Emergency Fund, designed to give students in need a one-time payment to help them through a difficult time. 

Sure Walk

If you are on campus late and have concerns about your safety getting home, all students, faculty, and staff can request SURE Walkers to accompany them. Two SURE Walkers may accompany you on your walk home or provide a complimentary cart or car ride, depending on service area.

Title IX Office

If students experience or witness a Tile IX violation, they should report it to the Title IX office. If a student is employed as a TA or AI, they are what is considered a mandatory reporter. This means that if a TA or AI learns about a Title IX violation from one of their students, they are required to report it. All faculty and staff are also considered mandatory reporters.

University Health Services

Students can get vaccines at UHS, and can also access general health services.

University Writing Center

The UWC provides free programs to support and empower all UT graduate students as readers, writers, and communicators. Our trained graduate student consultants provide one-on-one feedback on any project at any stage of your writing process. There is no charge for our services, which are generously supported by the Office of Graduate Studies and the College of Liberal Arts.

UT Outpost

UT Outpost is the free on-campus food pantry and career closet for all currently enrolled students at UT Austin. Emergencies and financial hardships can affect students in and outside of class. UT Outpost is here to support students with healthy food and gently used professional clothing.
