Will Clough, MES and IRG double-major, studied abroad in Oman on a Critical Language Scholarship

Will Clough is a Middle Eastern Studies and International Relations & Global Studies double-major, a Liberal Arts Honors student, and a Dedman Distinguished Scholar. This summer, he stayed in Ibri, Oman for 9 weeks through the State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship. He took intensive Arabic classes, engaged with Omani youth on a daily basis, and gained a deeper understanding of Gulf culture and life in the Middle East as a whole. Clough says: “It was an incredible yet challenging experience and some of my favorite memories include taking a cruise near the Strait of Hormuz, visiting a sea turtle reserve, and learning how to tie a ghutra, the traditional Omani turban. The people I encountered along the way were incredibly kind and welcoming and I am glad to say I made several lifelong friends.” Way to go, Will!
