Application

Deadline: April 23, 2025

Applications will open in Fall 2024. If you need an admission decision before May 2025, please contact tyus.welter@austin.utexas.edu

Eligibility

The Arabic Summer Institute is open to students from all universities and language backgrounds. Due to the intensive nature of the program, students are discouraged from taking other courses while participating. The 2025 Arabic Summer Institute will be fully virtual, so students are not required to reside in Austin to participate.

Application Materials and Instructions

ASI uses the same application for the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Arabic tracks. Applicants will select their preferred level of study on the application form.

In addition to completing the application form, prospective ASI students must provide:

1. Transcripts

Transcripts from each college or university that an applicant has attended are required. Unofficial copies are acceptable. UT students may submit an academic summary from the Office of the Registrar. Please make sure that grades are listed on the academic summary.

Transcript files should be submitted as pdfs and named accordingly: Lastname, Firstname TRANSCRIPT # (ex: Jones, Tyler TRANSCRIPT 1).

2. A Statement of Purpose

Applicants must submit a short (maximum 500 words) statement of purpose that outlines their interest in attending ASI, how studying Arabic fits into their academic and career goals, and their preparedness for an intensive, demanding academic program.

Statement of Purpose files should be submitted as pdfs and named accordingly: Lastname, Firstname STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (ex: Snyder, Delaney STATEMENT OF PURPOSE)

3. Contact Information for an Academic or Professional Reference

This reference will not be required to provide a letter. Contacts who can speak to an applicant's academic or language-learning aptitude (like professors) are preferred.

4. A UT EID (Electronic ID)

You will need a UT EID (Electronic ID) in order to complete the application. If you don’t have an EID or have forgotten yours, go here.

5. An Oral Proficiency Interview (if necessary)

Qualified applicants from outside UT will be contacted within two weeks of the deadline to schedule an oral proficiency interview as part of the admission process.  These interviews will be used to help determine admissions and placement decisions.
