Battalion
Welcome to the University of Texas Naval ROTC Battalion. I am Midshipman First Class Zachary Schaefer, and it is my distinct honor to serve as the Battalion Commanding Officer for the Fall 2024 academic semester. This year marks the 84th year of excellence since our establishment in 1940. Throughout this time, our battalion has commissioned exceptional officers who have served from World War II to the Global War on Terror, making our program a cornerstone of leadership in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
UT NROTC has commissioned some of the best Naval and Marine Corps officers since 1940, and by choosing to join this program, you decided to follow in the footsteps of admirals, generals, and hundreds of company-grade officers who decided to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Today’s military is comprised of less than one percent of the American population. Your decision to join our battalion makes you a part of that esteemed community.
Remember, as a midshipman, you will be tasked with decisions and responsibilities that prepare you to lead with integrity and honor. In this battalion, you will find not only challenges but also a strong support network dedicated to your success. Surrounded by peers and guided by
experienced officers, your journey here will shape you into a leader worthy of the Naval Service's proud heritage. The core values of honor, courage, and commitment will be your guideposts to success. This semester, remember that the effort you invest here will directly influence the leader you become. Embrace every opportunity, learn from every challenge, and contribute to our shared goals.
Once again, welcome aboard. Together, we will uphold the proud traditions of our past and contribute to a future marked by excellence. And, of course, Hook ‘em and Texas Navy, Texas Fight!
