Current College Students

Students who are current college students with less than 60 hours of completed coursework are eligible to apply for the College Program, the Historically Black College and University Scholarships, or the National Two-year College Program. For any questions email air@austin.utexas.edu.

College Program

The NROTC College Program is designed to educate and train college students for careers as commissioned officers in the unrestricted line of the Navy and Marine Corps.

College Program Students complete the same training requirements as Scholarship Students without the financial support of the Scholarship Program. However, all College Program Students are eligible to earn a scholarship through academic and military training performance, if desired.

Upon graduation and completion of all Naval Science requirements, College Program Students are commissioned as Ensigns in the Navy or as Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps.

Requirements

In addition to the general program requirements College Program Students must:

  • Be U.S. or naturalized citizen or have submitted naturalization papers.
  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Texas at Austin or Huston Tillotson University.
  • Have at least two and a half years of college coursework remaining until they receive a degree.
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA if college coursework already completed.

National Two-Year Scholarship or Two-Year College Program

The Two-Year NROTC Scholarship and Two-Year NROTC College Programs are in place to train and provide officers for the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

Benefits

During the final two years of college, Two-Year Scholarship students receive college tuition, a textbook stipend each semester, a monthly subsistence allowance, naval science textbooks, and uniforms.

Eligibility Requirements

In addition to general program requirements, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must meet physical requirements for the NROTC Program. All applicants will be screened for disqualifying factors prior to being scheduled for a DODMERB physical.
  • Educational requirements:
    At least two years of college with a 2.5 GPA or better;
    Be accepted for matriculation as a junior at the University of Texas at Austin or Huston-Tillotson University.
    Scholarship only: One year of differential and integral calculus of one real variable with grades of C or better (except Marine and College Program applicants).
    College Program only: Must have completed one year of college level study in either mathematics (college algebra or higher) or physical science (physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, etc.) and must agree to complete a total of one year of college level study in both mathematics and physical science prior to commissioning (Navy Option only).

Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Scholarships

HBCU Scholarship Program (Navy option only)

This scholarship is designed to support HBCU institutions in accordance with standing Executive Orders. The Scholarship is open to high school students of any race or ethnicity with academic potential who have yet to demonstrate performance in a college environment or to college students who have completed at least one but less than two semesters of university course work with a cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0 and with no grade below a "C" in all courses attempted.

Frederick C. Branch Marine Leadership Scholarships (Marine option only)

The recipients of these scholarships are nominated by the Professor of Naval Science and confirmed by a board of three officers at Marine Corps Recruiting Command. These scholarships are only available for HBCU schools on an as needed basis.

HBCU Scholarships are identical to the Four-year National NROTC scholarships with the exception of the recipient must attend Huston-Tillotson University or one of the other twelve designated Historically Black Colleges or Universities.

Requirements

In addition to general program requirements, HBCU Scholarship Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled or accepted as a full-time student at Huston Tillotson University.
  • Have no apparent physically disqualifying factors based on a review of the Report of Medical History.
