Intentionality in Music Performance

The role of intentionality in musical performance is an issue of relevance both to the philosophy of music and to performance studies. In today’s presentation we will focus directly on the role played by the intentions of the performer in the realization of a piece of music. This raises issues regarding questions of both form and content, and leads to further consideration of the interrelationship of cognition, embodiment and meaning. The research presented utilizes a cross-disciplinary approach that integrates insights from aesthetics and philosophy, performance studies, and recent advances in information technology.
