Advising Resources
Approved Plan II Course Lists (for all Catalogs):
Interdisciplinary studies are built into the Plan II degree. On top of University CORE Requirements, Plan II students will take two extra courses in Non-US History, one extra course in either Fine Arts or Humanities, and can enjoy Plan II's unique Math and Sciences, or find acceptable substitutions below. View the course lists below to see options for fulfilling these Plan II degree requirements. Please speak with an Advisor if you need clarification.

Non-US History
Must take two courses in the same region to fulfill requirement. Regions are: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, or Middle Eastern. Please use the NEW course list, as it has the most accurate listing of available History courses. The old list has been updated only through fall 2024.

Studying Abroad?
According to Texas Global statistics, Plan II students are the second highest population of students that go abroad, following after IRG students. Plan II Advising supports study abroad endeavors and encourages students thinking about going abroad to talk to an advisor early and often. We also recommend perusing the Texas Global website for experiences, and connecting with their Peer Mentor program.
Plan II students can take courses abroad that will fulfill their non-US History, Fine Arts/Humanities, or Foreign Language requirements. Visit this page to learn more about Plan II students' opportunities abroad. Read more below on the process of how to take a Plan II non-US History or Fine Arts/Humanities course abroad.
We only allow courses that have are evaluated as History (HIS) at UT Austin and are focused in a specific region to count.
To see if your course qualifies,
- Find your program via My Credit Abroad, and see if your course has been approved as a HIS course (usually with a 319S or 329S course number.)
- If not, then submit a Texas Global Pre-Course Evaluation.
- If it qualifies, double-check with Plan II Advising.
- Then, you can take the course abroad. Be sure to save a copy of the syllabus!
- When you return from abroad, UT will evaluate your credits. After those have posted, inform Plan II Advising and we will assist you with the next steps.
Speak with an advisor if you have any questions.
We only allow courses that fit under the criteria of our Plan II Fine Arts/Humanities list (see list above). Easily transferable courses taken abroad are: any Art History course (ARH), upper-division Philosophy (PHL with number 320 or above), or upper-division Humanities (HMN with number 320 or above).
