Studying Abroad?

According to Texas Global statistics, Plan II students are the second highest population of students that go abroad, following after IRG students. Plan II Advising supports study abroad endeavors and encourages students thinking about going abroad to talk to an advisor early and often. We also recommend perusing the Texas Global website for experiences, and connecting with their Peer Mentor program.

Plan II students can take courses abroad that will fulfill their non-US History, Fine Arts/Humanities, or Foreign Language requirements. Visit this page to learn more about Plan II students' opportunities abroad. Read more below on the process of how to take a Plan II non-US History or Fine Arts/Humanities course abroad.

Non-US History Abroad

To take a qualifying course abroad that counts for Plan II non-US History, the course must evaluated at UT Austin as a History (HIS) course and is focused in a specific region.

To see if your course qualifies, please follow these process steps:

  1. Find your program via My Credit Abroad, and see if your course has been approved as a HIS course (usually with a 319S or 329S course number.)
  2. If not, then submit a Texas Global Pre-Course Evaluation.
  3. If it is evaluated as History, double-check the course with Plan II Advising.
  4. Then, you can take the course abroad. Be sure to save a copy of the syllabus!
  5. When you return from abroad, UT will evaluate your credits. After those have posted, inform Plan II Advising and we will assist you with the next steps.

Before taking any courses abroad, we highly recommend speaking with an Plan II advisor first.

Fine Arts/Humanities Abroad

To take a qualifying course abroad that counts for Plan II Fine Arts/Humanities, the course must evaluated at UT Austin as courses that fit under the criteria of our Plan II Fine Arts/Humanities list (see list above). Easily transferable courses taken abroad are: any Art History course (ARH), upper-division Philosophy (PHL with number 320 or above), or upper-division Humanities (HMN with number 320 or above).

To see if your course qualifies, please follow these process steps:

  1. Find your program via My Credit Abroad to see if your course has been approved.
  2. If not, then submit a Texas Global Pre-Course Evaluation.
  3. If it is evaluated as any of the course criteria listed above, double-check the course with Plan II Advising.
  4. Then, you can take the course abroad. Be sure to save a copy of the syllabus!
  5. When you return from abroad, UT will evaluate your credits. After those have posted, inform Plan II Advising and we will assist you with the next steps.
