The Basics
Plan II Academic Advisors provide comprehensive support to students throughout their time at UT Austin—from orientation to graduation. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor each semester, whether they are solely in Plan II or balancing multiple majors.
Plan II Advisors are specially trained to help students navigate how Plan II integrates with their unique degree plans and aspirations. Those pursuing multiple majors must also consult with their other major’s department in addition to Plan II Advising.
Common topics discussed in advising are:
- Claiming credit
- Interactive Degree Audit
- Course Schedule
- Adding/dropping a major, minor, or certificate(s)
- Long-Term planning
- Holistic Student Development
- Studying Abroad

FERPA
FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, is a federal law that pertains to the release of and access to student educational records. The law, also known as the Buckley Amendment, applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the US Department of Education. Go to FERPA or US Department of Education Policy Guide to learn more. The student may speak with a Plan II Advisor to discuss their rights under FERPA.
