Humanities, Health Care and Advocacy Track in Plan II
The Plan II Honors Program is proud to announce the launch of its Humanities, Health Care and Advocacy (HHCA) Track under the direction of Dr. Stephen Sonnenberg, in collaboration with the parallel Bridging Disciplines Program Patients, Practitioners, and Cultures of Care offered by UT’s School of Undergraduate Studies. This partnership focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of healthcare, and emphasizes the importance of partnerships between healthcare providers, planners, advocates, scholars, and practitioners when engaging with the world’s health challenges.
The HHCA track offers a unique opportunity to students in Plan II, granting them access to faculty across campus whose focus is healthcare, including faculty from the Dell Medical School. This program provides students with access to resources, faculty support, and events that reinforce the curriculum and prepare them for a career in healthcare. An array of courses specific to the track are offered to students, and in their senior year, students will work closely with faculty mentors to choose a thesis project related to an aspect of healthcare.
Applications to the HHCA are accepted year-round, but applications to the parallel Bridging Disciplines Program Patients, Practitioners, and Cultures of Care in UGS have deadlines once in the fall and once in the spring.
The BDP fall 2020 application deadline will be Oct. 8 at 8:00 a.m., and the online application system will open for fall applications on Sept. 1.
Curriculum Requirements
Prerequisites
- Enrollment in the Plan II Honors Program.
- Acceptance to the Bridging Disciplines Program Patients, Practitioners, and Cultures of Care in UGS.

TC 330 Various Topics (Topics may include: Medical Ethics; Health Service, Support, Care and Information in the 21st Century; Child and Parent Development)
TC 358 Humanities Based Health Care Research in the Service of Advocacy
TC 358 Various Topics (Topics may include: Biomedical Ethics)
Senior Thesis
Topic must be related to an aspect of healthcare.
