Plan II Blanton Internships

Plan II offers a paid internship at the Blanton Museum of Art designed to provide undergraduates with experience in the nature and operations of a major art museum. The experience gained by interns may benefit them in their own research projects, in possible graduate studies, and even as a career option in such fields as education, librarianship, museum studies, curatorial work, public affairs, marketing, and event management.

The Plan II Intern will serve in the Blanton's education department and will support multiple educators on its staff.  This will provide the Plan II Intern with a rare, comprehensive view of the museum education field and its many facets, including insights into school and teacher programs, university programs, volunteer management, and digital learning. The intern will be invited to attend docent trainings and professional development programs designed for the museum's student workers. The Plan II Blanton intern will have the opportunity to gain real world museum experience while contributing to a wide range of educational initiatives aimed at the museum's varied audiences.

The 2019-20 Plan II intern, Rachel Mitchell, researched several portraits in the Blanton’s permanent collections and drafted biographical sketches of both the artists and sitters for use in gallery teaching.  She also wrote Readers’ Theater scripts for one of the major narrative paintings.
